When you wear a copper bracelet, it will tarnish and may tarnish over time. How you clean your copper jewelry depends on whether it is lacquered or not.
Let’s take a look at the most important tips you should keep in mind when caring for your copper bracelet.
Clean the Lacquered Copper Bracelet
If your copper bracelet is painted, it won’t change color as easily as unpainted copper jewelry. Instead, it becomes dull and tarnishing.
You can use a polishing cloth to polish your lacquered copper bracelet.
If the bracelet is dirty, it can be cleaned with warm water with some dish soap or soap. Wipe gently with a cloth or old toothbrush. Rinse the bracelet thoroughly and gently dry it with a soft cloth.
Clean Unpainted Copper Bracelets
Generally speaking, unvarnished copper jewelry can be cleaned well with a weak acidic substance such as lemon juice or vinegar.
Important: Avoid applying lemon juice, vinegar or any other cleaning substance to the gemstones on the bracelet as they may be damaged.
Be especially careful with pearls. Do not soak such jewelry in cleaning liquids unless you are sure that it is safe to use the gemstones you have.
If you think your gemstone is susceptible to damage, simply wipe the bracelet with a cleaning solution to clean the bracelet and handle it carefully around the gemstone.
Note: If your copper bracelet is antique, if you plan to sell it, then removing its rust may make it less valuable in the eyes of potential buyers.
Clean the Copper with Lemon and Lemon Juice
Lemon: Take one lemon and cut it in half. You can also add some salt to the lemon cuts. Wipe the copper bracelet with lemon. Rinse the jewelry with water and dry it with a soft cloth.
Lemon juice: Instead of using lemon, you can pour some lemon juice into a cup or bowl and add some salt to the liquid. Dip the band in the juice and leave for 5-10 minutes. You can also gently scrub the part with a cloth or toothbrush. Rinse the bracelet with water and dry it with a soft cloth.
Cleaning paste: Add equal parts lemon juice and baking soda to make a cleaning paste. Gently wipe the bracelet with your fingers, cloth, or old toothbrush, and clean the bracelet with paste. After the band is thoroughly cleaned, rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
Note: It is recommended that you use a ceramic or glass container to soak the copper bracelet. Metal containers are not recommended.
Clean the Copper with Vinegar
Soak the bracelet in vinegar for 5-10 minutes. Wipe it clean if needed. Rinse thoroughly with water. Then dry with a cloth.
Alternatively, you can add some flour and salt to the vinegar (e.g.,1 part vinegar,1 part flour, and 1 part salt) to make the vinegar into a paste. Wipe the bracelet clean with a paste and rinse thoroughly with water.
Clean the Copper with Worcestershire Sauce
You can also use Worcestershire Sauce to clean your copper bracelet. Apply some sauce to the workpiece and clean it with a cloth or soft toothbrush.
Then wash off the sauce with water and dry the bracelet with a soft cloth.
Clean the Copper with Ketchup
Apply some Ketchup to the copper bracelet and wipe it clean with a soft cloth or toothbrush. The part is then rinsed with water and dried.
You can also use tomato sauce instead of Ketchup.
Use a Copper Cleaner
If your copper bracelet is heavily rusted, you can use a commercial cleaner specially formulated for copper jewelry.
Apply some drops of cleaner to a soft cloth and wipe the part until the stain is gone. Rinse with water.
Note: Avoid using commercial cleaners on any gemstones or pearls that may be on the bracelet, as some cleaning brands may damage them.
Polished Copper Bracelet
Once the copper bracelet has been cleaned, it can be polished with a jewelry polishing cloth.
It is best to use a polishing cloth that is specifically made for copper. Other types of polishing cloths, such as those used for gold, may be less effective.
Store Your Copper Bracelet
Store the copper bracelet away from moisture, as this will cause the bracelet to tarnish. If you have one, place the copper bracelet in a sealed jewelry box.
Alternatively, you can also put the bracelet in a well-sealed plastic bag. You can also use anti-tarnish paper.
Don’t forget to dry the cleaned copper bracelet well before storing it.
Wear a Copper Bracelet
Keep in mind that the natural oils on the skin can change the color of the area where the copper bracelet comes into contact with the skin. If you’re concerned about this, you can apply some colorless nail polish to these areas regularly (as nail polish can wear out over time).
Still, remember to keep your nail polish away from gemstones.
You can also wipe your copper bracelet clean after you remove it, which will keep it shining for longer.
Do not wear copper jewelry in the pool or bathtub, as the water there may contain chemicals that can damage the surface of the bracelet.
Remove your copper bracelet while washing dishes or doing other work at home, as it may damage your jewelry.
